Plesk Quick-Start Information
This page is a very basic introduction to the Plesk control panel. We have
received positive feedback about this control panel, and we expect you will also
find it easy to use to manage both your website and email services. Of course we
understand there is a bit of a learning curve to a new control panel, so if you
have any questions or if you notice any new issues on your website as a result
of the site migration, please don't hesitate to ask: http://www.dotcomhost.com/support
Below you will find a brief "translation guide" to help you get acclimated to
the Plesk interface, comparing how you did things in Ensim, and how things work
on Plesk. We have also added several
knowledge base articles, added
video tutorials, and have
the
control panel manuals available for download.
Control Panel:
This will be the biggest change that you will notice, only because it's a new
look and feel. If you have any questions, there is a very comprehensive "Help"
link (with a blue question mark) at the bottom-left of every page that will give
detailed information about what is available on any page.
Logging into the control panel will be slightly different, though, since you
will use your full domain name instead of the abbreviated username. For
example:
For
the "Login" box...
OLD: domain
NEW: domain.com
Your password for the control panel will be the same as what you previously
used.
You will also be able to
access your control panel by adding ":8443" to the end of your domain name. For
example:
http://www.domain.com:8443
Email:
You will still be able to download your email via your email program.
Passwords will continue to be the same. However, Plesk does require you to
use your
full email address for your email username. For example:
OLD: john (you may have previously logged in with the short username "john")
NEW: john@domain.com (needs to log in with username "john@domain.com")
This applies for both incoming and outgoing email.
FTP:
Your FTP username/password will be the same as before. However, you will notice
the directories have shifted around a little.
OLD: mainwebsite_html (or /var/www/html)
NEW: /httpdocs
OLD: mainwebsite_cgi (or /var/www/cgi-bin)
NEW: /cgi-bin
Additionally, if you have MIVA Merchant installed, your database files and
data exports can be found in a new location:
OLD: /var/www/mivadata (or mainwebsite_mivadata)
NEW: /private/mivadata
We expect Plesk will be a very intuitive control panel to use and will
allow you to continue to be productive with a very short learning curve.
